According to the EPA, the sulfur oxide emissions from a cruise ship operating on bunker fuel for one day is equal to the emissions of 13 million cars. Efforts are underway to persuade Coast Guard Commander Papp to ban BUNKER FUEL in the Artic.
A felon can purchase a gun without a background check by buying it from an unlicensed firearms dealer at a gun show. Known as the "gun show loophole" the NRA supported exception to the Brady Law permits the purchase of firearms at gun shows without a background check. More specifically, it does not require a background check if the gun is bought from an unlicensed firearms dealer. Thnk Progress reports that as many as half of the dealers at gun shows are unlicensed.

Florida tomato harvesters are still paid by the piece. The average piece rate today is 50 cents for every 32-lbs of tomatoes they pick, a rate that has remained virtually unchanged since 1980. As a result of that stagnation, a worker today must pick nearly 2.5 tons of tomatoes to earn minimum wage in a typical 10-hour workday – twice the amount a worker had to pick to earn minimum wage thirty years ago. Most farmworkers today earnless than $12,000 a year.
In July 2010, the largest tar sands spill in history poured over one million gallons of tar sands into the Kalamazoo River. The Enbridge pipeline spill caused almost $1 billion in damage, and two years later, it still hasn't been completely cleaned up. Now Enbridge is planning their next tar sands pipeline for New England. This tar sands pipeline will cross, and threaten, the water and wildlife of the beautiful Connecticut, Androscoggin, Missisquoi, Black, and Moose Rivers.
